SOME EXPERIMENTS IN DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION WITH
FERRO-CEMENT, January 4, 1960 MEETING,
The Institution of Civil
Engineers of Ireland, by Lyal D.G. Collen, 1960, 15 pages.
This paper is an
account of some experimental work and a minor construction project in
Ferro-Cement. It can be divided into four convenient sections.
In the first section
the results of a series of experiments, designed to produce values for
mechanical properties of Ferro-Cement are given. The results in this section
have been published recently in Civil Engineering and Public Works Review and
are reproduced by kind permission.
In the second section
the economical implications of the results of these experiments are explored
and further experimental results are given for the case in which expanded
metal rather than woven mesh is used as the reinforced material. The design
and construction of a small cantilever canopy in which Ferro-Cement are used
to span 26 ft. is described in the next section.
